Am I eligible to embark on CA SRI LANKA?

Yes – if you meet any one of the following qualifications:

  • Three Simple Passes at G.C.E. Advanced Level in any Stream at one sitting.
  • A Degree of a University in Sri Lanka or of any other University as approved by the Council of the Institute.
  • Second Year Examination of the Higher National Diploma in Accountancy/ Diploma in Accountancy or the Higher National Diploma in Commerce/ Diploma in Commerce of the Sri Lanka Technical College.
  • Part I or Foundation stage, Stage I or Certificate Level of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA – UK).
  • Part I or Foundation Stage or Level I of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA – UK).
  • Membership of the Sri Lanka Government Accountant Service.
  • Membership of the Sri Lanka Government Audit Service.
  • Final Examination of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (ICSA – UK)
  • Final Examination of the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA – UK)
  • Final Examination of the Association of International Accountants (AIA – UK)
  • Final Examination of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka. (AAT – Sri Lanka)
  • Final Examination of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT – UK)
  • Final Examination of the Institute of Bankers in Sri Lanka or UK.
  • Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Marketing
  • Final Examination of the Association of Certified Management Accountants (CMA) of Sri Lanka
  • Any other qualification approved by the Council.

Training can be undertaken in any organization local or overseas which is highly appealing to businesses looking for ambitious and experienced employees.

Practical Training

To become a qualified chartered accountant the practical training plays a vital role in building the required skills and competencies. Those who complete practical training along with the relevant examinations are eligible to apply for certificates awarded by the institute, as well as for the admission to Associate Membership (ACA) of the Institute.

Practical Training or the Personal pillar is at the core of the curriculum and this coupled with unique competencies developed via the Knowledge and Skills pillars, offer students the required valued experience to excel in the workplace.

Practical Training scheme was revamped along with the curriculum and the new training requirements have been developed in line with the International Accounting Education Standards for developing professional competence for aspiring professional accountants and based on the stakeholder expectation from a professional Chartered Accountant.

The new curriculum encourages practical training in the form of on-the-job training along with studies in a bid to empower students with relevant professional skills, knowledge, attitudes and behavior required of a qualified accountant.

Trainees who are CA Sri Lanka students undergoing training, are required to complete the total training period of three years with a minimum of 220 working days per year under following three levels :

  • Executive Level (PE1)
  • Business Level (PB1)
  • Corporate Level (PC1)

CA training is full time course where the students have to joint with an approved training partner & be supervised under a chartered Accountant. Also the training period should be registered in the Institute under a Training Agreement in order to recognize it as valid practical training.

Trainees are allowed to complete the training period by signing two separate training agreements under any of the following options.
